Since almost all video add-ons classify this additional extension as a dependency it is possible that streams will not work if the URLResolver needs an update. We will explain how to update the URLResolver in the course of this article.

What is the Kodi URLResolver?
The URLResolver is responsible that the Kodi Player can decode and play the video files. How it works exactly and what it is all about you can read more about in this article.
How do I update the URLResolver in Kodi?
We have different methods for the update.
1. External download
We can download the latest version of GitHub right here. Please put the .ZIP file in a location on your computer that you can easily find later.
- The downloaded file is safe in a place we can easily find. We are in the main menu of the Kodi Player and click “Settings” (grey gear wheel).
- If you have not yet activated unknown sources we go first to “System“.
- In the list entry “Add-ons” we click on “Activate unknown sources“, we confirm the following window also with “Yes”
- We go back to our settings menu and select “Add-ons“.
- Now we click on “install from .ZIP file“.
- Navigate to the place where we moved our downloaded file and click “OK“.
- After a short moment a notification appears in the upper right window that the installation was successful. The Kodi URLResolver is now up to date!
2. Download and update the URLResolver directly in Kodi Player
We have the option to save ourselves the external download via GitHub and download it directly from a media source. We can find the add-on in the “TV Add-ons” from the Fusion repository.
First we add the link http://fusion.tvaddons.co/ as a new media source. How to add a media source you will find in this tutorial.
- In the main menu of the Kodi Player we go to “Settings” (grey gear wheel).
- If you have not yet activated unknown sources we go first to “System”.
- In the list entry “Add-ons” we click on “Activate unknown sources“, the following window is also confirmed with “OK“.
- We go back to our settings menu and select “Add-ons“.
- Click on “Install from .ZIP file“.
- Select our self-titled media source. In this example I called it fusion.
- Now we go to “kodi-scripts”
- Now we see our desired URLResolver. In this case the file is called “script.module.urlresolver-5.0.45.zip“, please note that the version number 5.0.45 may change due to future updates. Choose the latest one.
- After a short moment we receive a notification in the upper right screen that the update was successful.
Check the version of the Kodi URLResolver
- To see the version of our URLResolver we go to “Settings” in the main menu of the Kodi Player (grey gear wheel).
- Click on “System”.
- Select at the bottom left of the “Expert” window.
- Go to the list entry “Add-ons” and click on “Manage dependencies“.
- Search the list directly for “URLResolver” and check the version on the right side.
- Click on “URLResolver” (also here under the title you can see the version number in this example 5.0.45). As a small test we choose “Update“.
- As you can see here, only “older versions are available“. Please make sure to always download the latest version directly from the developers, like in our tutorial.
