What exactly do unknown sources do?
In Kodi, an unknown source is defined as a file from which the origin cannot be determined. This means that the file is not a certified publisher. Since Kodi is open source software anyone can program modifications for it and make them available for download. Unknown sources do not automatically mean harmful files or viruses. Even many of the most popular repositories can be added to Kodi externally.
How do I activate unknown sources?
- We are in the main menu of our Kodi Player and click “Settings” (grey gear wheel)
- Select “System” here
- Go to the “Add-ons” tab in the list and click on the “button for unknown sources“.
- We get a message that we confirm with “Yes“.
- Now we have already activated our unknown sources and we can install our desired addon or repository!
